Latitude 2016: Oh Wonder

Latitude 2016 Latitude 2016: Oh Wonder

It’s clear that their live debut at the festival is going to be a memorable one.

It may still be the early afternoon on the first day of Latitude, but there’s already a huge crowd awaiting the arrival of Oh Wonder. By the time they walk out onto the BBC 6music stage and delve into their gorgeous electro-tinged pop, it’s clear that their live debut at the festival is going to be a memorable one.

Their set is sleek but emotive, their songs fragile and bold; there’s a real beauty that oozes throughout their time on stage. Powered by the warm vocals of the duo - Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West - there’s something truly effecting about the likes of ‘All We Do’, ‘Landslide’ and ‘Livewire’.

Admitting that she’s visited the festival five times previously, Josephine looks visibly moved by the size of their audience on their first occasion playing. It may be less than a year since their debut record’s release - and this may only be their second UK festival slot - but they’re already a band confident with their identity. This afternoon, they’re truly enchanting.

While it’s not exactly straying too far from familiar sonic territory for the duo, it’s a heart-warming sentiment all the same.
