SOHN sets off ‘Tremors’ during Latitude 2014 set

Vienna-based producer launched his debut album with a searing mid-afternoon set.

Trust SOHN not to remove his hood, or even his triple-layered beanie, when taking to the 6Music Stage for a mid-afternoon performance in the searing heat.

On record, the songs from his 4AD debut ‘Tremors’ are cold on the outside, but bubbling up with a warm, emotive heart. There’s method to all this - he’s at once an introverted producer and a songwriter with actual stories to tell. It’s a tough balancing act, but he pulls it off.

Live these songs bounce and immerse a little more readily. Backed by strobes and a much-promised ‘wall of synth’, the depths of his debut are revealed. ‘Tremors” title-track exposes hip-hop inclined beats, a slick movement that makes the tent even steamier than its already sweat-filled state.

‘The Wheel’ gets an appearance in the second half of the set. Despite being icy and harsh on record, today if becomes an oddly relevant anthem, the perfect ode to a heatwave.
