SXSW 2010: Freelance Whales, Galaxy Room, Austin

Lovely feel good music that you just want to keep listening to.

Freelance Whales

have been hyped. A lot. And not without reason.

Kicking off the French Kiss Records party at Galaxy Room’s backyard show they make beautiful bittersweet music. Dreamy indie rock full of micro korg samples, a girl bassist and boys with guitars and glasses rubbed ever so artistically with folk seasonings. A banjo here, a harmonium there, a few folksy voice turns for good measure.

What they come out with is lovely feel good, but not too good, music that you just want to keep listening to. The audience in this tent want to listen, and be closer to the stage; a great big love fest for Freelance Whales.
