Josef Salvat emerged in the beginning of 2014 as one of this year’s essential names to keep an eye on. His often morbid songwriting appeared incapable of avoiding big hooks, despite the bittersweet quality, and for the past few months this former Canberra resident has spent his time holed up in a studio.
He’s emerged with ‘Open Season’, the second track to be taken from a forthcoming EP titled ‘Your Prime’. That’s coming out next Monday (22nd September) on Columbia, serving as a preview for an eventual 2015 LP.
This time round, ‘Open Season’ sticks to a more positive note. “We’re in this game together,” he declares, after proudly stating “I believe in you” to whoever’s listening in. Cabin fevered recording sessions must’ve given Salvat a dose of optimism.
Listen below to ‘Open Season’, via The Fader. And catch up with another track from the EP, ‘Shoot and Run’.
