Beastie Boys demand legal fees from Monster Energy Drink

The Beastie Boys have made a request to Monster Beverage Corporation, to pay them an additional $2.4 million (£1.6 million) to cover the legal fees of their recent copyright lawsuit.

The band were recently granted $1.4 million for copyright infringement and false endorsement after the company used several snippets of Beastie Boys tracks, including ‘Sabotage’, ‘So What’cha Want’, ‘Make Some Noise’ and ‘Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun’, in one of their promotional videos, under illegal circumstances.

The group have criticised the brand’s actions within the lawsuit, and have requested further payment in light of their handling of the case. As reported by Billboard, lawyers of the band stated;

“Monster’s tactics significantly increased the costs for Beastie Boys to vindicate their intellectual property rights, such that, absent an award of attorney’s fees and costs, plaintiff’s success at trial would become a Pyrrhic victory.”

The energy drink corporation have yet to comment further.
