Features The Neu Bulletin (19th February 2014)
Neu’s daily new music guide, featuring Superfood, Mom Tudie and FRAME.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.
THE GIG
Superfood - London, Oslo
Taking to newly-fledged London venue Oslo for the first time, Brummy-bred pack Superfood. Once they’ve stopped stuffing on cheerios and flicking through teletext, they’ll be bringing their 90s obsessions to a hotly-anticipated show.
THE BIG NEU THING
Mom Tudie - Teach Ourselves (ft. Abigail Glasser)
Seeking solace in snapping percussion and the kind of horn sections that could’ve stumbled right out of a Bonobo track, 18 year old producer Mom Tudie knows what he’s doing. Stripping things back to the purity of a sweet pop song, his methods are clear, but they’re sure as hell working. The guy’s about to go on several months’ worth of travelling around South America too, the lucky bugger. If he needs a soundtrack, he only has to look up local files on his laptop.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
FRAME - Run Around
Extract every single second of The Breakfast Club and compress it into a sub-three minute debut track. That’s the jist of FRAME’s first work. She’s a nostalgia-framed Brooklyn popstar dosed up on ‘Heathers’, perms and strapping 80s disco. There’s no limit to her retromania, but that doesn’t stop ‘Run Around’ from being a massive pop song.
