Big Deal are not ones to blow their own trumpet, so we thought we’d do it for them. With a hoard of festival appearances on the way and their debut album due for release next month, we caught up with the duo to get to know them a bit better via our quickfire question round.

Hello, who are you and what role do you play in the band?

KC: Hi, I’m KC and I sing and play the guitar.
Alice: Hi, I’m Alice and I do the same.

What’s the best thing about being a twosome?
There’s only one person to split the rider with.

If you had to choose between being a solo artist or being part of a larger band, which would you pick?

Definitely being part of a larger band. Solo artists are lonely. And if you mess up it’s all on you.

You’re a male/female duo, do more people presume that you are siblings or lovers?
No one has thought that we are siblings yet. Except our parents. Everyone has assumed we are lovers, including our lovers.

Is it a coincidence that there’s two of you, two words in your name and two words in your album title or is this all part of the plan?
We aren’t a ‘plan’ kind of band. We just can’t seem to put more then two words together at a time. Except now. Except for that.

Your debut album’s out at the end of August, can you describe it in a sentence, please?
Summer, angst, healing dream?

Are there any stand out tracks we should watch out for?
Well, there are 12 tracks, and we have spent quite a lot of time on them at this point so it’s hard to tell how we feel about them, let alone imagine how others will. We know the first single is ‘Chair’.

Are there any themes you revisit when writing new material?
We wrote most of these songs within this past year, and they’re the first things we’ve written together, so we haven’t really begun to revisit so to speak. We are just beginning to write again and it feels great. I have a feeling it will be quite different.

What’s your best touring memory?
In Manchester on the NME tour, the crowd were amazing. We got really drunk after and ended up with Grouplove in McDonalds at 4 a.m feeding each other icecream. We also had loads of fun, playing the Mute European Incidents, sharing a sleeper bus with S.C.U.M, staying up watching Bad Lieutenant and Spinal Tap on the bus.

Where can people see you play live next?
Lexington on the 13th of July, then our album launch on August 24 at Tamesis Dock, then Reading and Leeds Festivals.

How would you like people to listen to your music?
We probably won’t make it into too many clubs so late at night with their friends? After the clubs maybe? People tend not to have as many cars here as in America but I hope we make the soundtrack to a few road trips
