DIY & Musosoup's Stand Out Tracks: TYGERMYLK, Moon Construction Kit & more

Sponsored content DIY & Musosoup’s Stand Out Tracks: TYGERMYLK, Moon Construction Kit & more

We’ve teamed up with music promotion platform Musosoup to highlight some of their best recent releases.

It’s no secret that discovering a favourite new artist can end up being a particularly joyful moment in life. Whether it’s via seeing them open up at a local show, or through scouring playlists online, there are loads of different ways to unearth musical gems right now, but sometimes it’s good to have an extra helping hand.

So, in order to celebrate the art of finding new music (while making it that little bit easier, and less time-consuming), we’ve teamed up with music promotion platform Musosoup, whose mission statement is to help shine a light on some of the lesser known acts in new music, in a more affordable and clear-cut manner for everyone involved.

Back in May, we offered up our first list of picks from the platform, and now we’re running through some of their more recent releases which have tickled our fancy. Check them out below!

TYGERMYLK — The Deverills

Summer is made for adventuring with your best friends, and if any song could double as the perfect soundtrack for the season’s warm nights, it’d be this latest offering from TYGERMYLK. Packed with nostalgic references to in-jokes and missteps (“We took the wrong boat / In the wrong direction…”), The Deverills’ — featuring Laura Reznek — is a floating delight that ruminates on the passage of time, all while reminding us to hold our loved ones even closer.

Moon Construction Kit — Long John Silver

While Moon Construction Kit may be a one-man project — from Olivier Cornu of Lausanne, Switzerland — you wouldn’t have guessed as much from the intricate, multi-layered sonic textures that define recent track Long John Silver’. A hazy, glitchy offering that conjures up the same heady, psych-fused feelings that Tame Impala and POND have made their name on, it’s a track that continually surprises.

Modern Guilt - You Know Who You Are

Opening with the audio from A Few Good Men’s undeniably iconic scene (“You can’t handle the truth!”) is a bold move from Modern Guilt on their recent single You Know Who You Are’. Luckily, the track — a self-confessed ode to dishonesty” — more than lives up to its introduction, with its Strokes-esque guitars and funky strut. Doesn’t make it honest just because you’re loud,” frontman Jaz goes on, with a swagger that sits squarely in the middle of Alex Turner and Julian Casablancas. When the band said the track is one for the liars”, they weren’t kidding…

Undead Living - Dirty Persuasion

While the name Undead Living might feel a little more in line with The Last Of Us than your new favourite post-punk duo, never fear, there’s still something undeniably satisfying about the darkly-hued wares of this Texan pair. To prove as much, their latest offering Dirty Persuasion’ is a melodic but shadowy cut that’ll be haunting your dreams in no time at all.

Maryse Smith - Freedom

Lifted from Massachusetts songwriter Maryse Smiths newly-released album Transience’, opening track Freedom’ bears all the warm, gorgeous hallmarks of a folk-rock classic, landing somewhere in the middle of Patti Smith and Laura Marling. An intimate, organic-sounding offering, it’ll have you longing to pick up an acoustic guitar in the evening sun.
