Well-mannered producer Gent Mason has signed up to the Aesop label, which began by introducing SOHN last year. The latter’s just signed to 4AD, his softly-softly songwriting promising big things. Pressure’s on, then.

Gent Mason gives a more introverted take than his label-mate; songs being readied for dark city alleyways rather than spaced-out road trips. It still works a treat.

‘Head’/’Eden’ is skyscraper electronic music. It looks over its peers with confidence, with one eye on the sky and everything it’s aiming towards. Vocals aren’t commanding, by any means. Rather, they steer in and out of consciousness, like a rowing boat fighting against a stern current and heavy waves. That’s the charm of Gent Mason. Perfectionism would ruin the game.
