Introducing Get To Know… Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

PPC enjoy long walks on the beach with our girlfriends, until the acid wears off and we realise we’ve been dragging round a mannequin by the frills in an op shop.

Absolutely nailing the pots and pans to ‘Are You Gunna Go My Way’ by Lenny Kravitz. Still to this day one of my favourite riffs.

Nirvana - ‘Nevermin’d was one of the first records I sat and listened to from start to finish, I remember playing the CD on a PS1 and trying to strum along on a bass guitar that was ten times my size. The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin were all massive influences early on and then when I turned Ten or something I started buying Kerrang magazine, then all I wanted to do was be in a band.

For this project (PPC) the obvious ones like Tame Impala, Tool, Mars Volta all drove me to think and play differently but it was during my university days where I became inundated with bands like Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Wytches, Pond, King Gizzard, Grizzly Bear, Morgan Delt, this ‘new’ psych sound really took hold of my world and accompanied the weekends escapades perfectly, so naturally the music I was creating starting shifting into the stranger realms.

About three years ago it was unreal, it’s still buzzing now but a couple of years back each weekend was Friday, Saturday, Sunday music. There’d be touring bands playing to nobody cause Love Junkies were playing Mojos, or Red Engine Caves were at the Corner Gallery or there’d be an incredible self-organised festival at The Rosemount. Hideous Sun Demon were fresh to the scene as too Old Blood, Spaceman Antics, Dream Rimmy, older bands like Hamjam, Foam, Abbe May, Sugarpuss (now Methyl Ethyl) and Mt Mountain were on regularly and you couldn’t go out without being inspired.

I was too young to see Tame Impala, Pond, Mink Mussel Creek and that innovative psych scene that were kicking around Perth but their sound is still evident, it’s Perth’s sonic gold nugget. Lately bands like Spacey Jane, The Southern River Band, Carla Geneve, Demon Days and Great Gable have been exciting to watch, Koi Child were great when they were about as well. It’s an interesting little culture.

I had a dream the other night that me and Cedric from The Mars Volta were drinking together at a house talking about writing an album together, I really hope that comes true. He was also a really good footy player. Otherwise Floating Points would be mad.

Our first international tour is a huge achievement for us. We’ve got 8 dates in the U.K announced and another 4 around Europe that we’re all buzzing for. Then we’re heading off around Australia with our good mates The Southern Rive Band. Can’t wait to sink some frothies with them.

A T-shirt and a record so we can eat a warm meal. But truthfully if people come to our gigs and enjoy themselves there’s no better feeling than that.
