Get To Know... Get To Know… Snõõper

We catch up with Nashville punks Snõõper ahead of the release of their debut album, ‘Super Snõõper’.

Hello and welcome to DIY’s introducing feature, Get To Know… which aims to get you a little bit closer to the buzziest new acts that have been catching our eye as of late, and working out what makes them tick.

Made up of Blair Tramel (vocals/visual art), Connor Cummins (guitar), Cam Sarrett (drums), Happy Haugen (bass) and Ian Teeple (guitar), Nashville-based Snõõper started out in 2020 as a auditory/visual project creating DIY cassettes and homemade videos. By blending punk with puppets and cracking the pace up to 100, they’ve quickly gained a reputation for some of the most riotous live shows around.

Having released a handful of EPs since their inception, the band are now about to release their debut album, ‘Super Snõõper’, via Jack White’s Third Man Records. We caught up with them to chat about their dream collaborators and what’s going on in their local scene.

Describe your music to us in the form of a Tinder bio.

Quirked up and in your city for a good time, not a long time ;) Nothing serious, please!

You’re based in Nashville - what do you think of the music scene there at the moment?

There are so many people in town that are dedicated to bringing cool bands to the city and work hard to involve young people in the music scene. Drkmttr is an amazingly accessible, all ages venue that is run by people in the scene. It’s the best example of a community-run, DIY venue that’s really putting in the work. There aren’t currently a ton of local punk bands, but hopefully that changes soon!

Who would be your dream collaborator?

Blair: Snuff Puppets
Connor: Damon Edge
Ian: Mary Jane Dunphe
Cam: Trish Keenan
Sean: Steve Reich
Happy: Paul Westerberg

Is there a visual world to what you’re trying to create? If so, how would you describe it?

The inside of a Radio Shack if Wayne White was asked to design it around the same time he worked on Pee Wee’s playhouse.

Which track of yours should a first-time listener start with, and why?

‘Pod’ used to be my first choice, but let’s say the new version of ‘Running’ because you can crank it in the club!

If you could have written any song from history, what would it have been?

Blair: ‘Give Me Back My Man’- B52s
Ian: ‘War Pigs’ - Black Sabbath
Connor: ‘Int’l Players Anthem’- UGK ft. Outkast
Happy: ‘I Found a Reason’ (demo version)- The Velvet Underground
Cam: ‘Neon Moon’- Brooks & Dunn
Sean: ‘Eye Sore’- Women

In school, what would you have been voted Most Likely To…?

Ian: Never make over $50k a year
Connor: Sell you drugs
Happy: Be eating
Cam: Run a marathon
Blair: Do too much
Sean: Hack the mainframe

We’re coming round for dinner, what are you cooking?

Connor: Risotto
Cam: Sardine pasta
Sean: Cabbage tacos
Ian: A big pot of chili with cornbread
Blair: Tostadas
Happy: Ordering takeout.
