News Mix #31: Together PANGEA

The gnarly, up-and-at-‘em routine that LA group together PANGEA so boldly stick to could be equated to traditional, balls-to-the-wall rock ‘n roll. But it’s not quite so clearcut. Their influences span from the expected (Black Lips et al.) to the less commonplace Lil B - essentially, if you’re a musician stamping on a rulebook while bellowing out something primal, pure and true to the heart, you’re going to have a place in together PANGEA’s hall of fame. Together, various extremes have their own impact on the band’s work, displayed most recently in the ‘Sick Shit’ EP (out now on Harvest / Island). Ahead of their first big London gig tomorrow night (22nd May), the band put together a mix for DIY outlining their wide-spanning ethos. It comes with an imaginative title - ‘together PANGEA - The Untitled Playlist’ and it’s backed by some tongue-in-cheek descriptions below the player.

Meat Market - Home Team
We love these kids - did a tour with them and FIDLAR a couple years back and absolutely fell in love, rad dudes and this is one of our favourite songs to get drunk and sing along loudly to.

Lil B - I Own Swag
‘Where’s your car? BITCH, WHICH ONE??’ YOUNG BASED GOD IS AN AMERICAN SUPERSTAR.

Audacity - Rooster
Definitely one of our brother bands, the original Burger Band - their first album ‘Power Drowning’ was such a huge influence on us and our sound when we were starting out. This song is proof of how far they have come as a band and how they continually blow our minds.

Shannon & The Clams - You Can Come Over
Cody’s vocals totally kill on this track. Amazing band out of Oakland, if you don’t know now you know.

Natural Child - Crack Mountain
‘I just wanna smoke crack with my friends’ - a self explanatory jam. Play this one LOUD and fuck shit up. The best band in America.

Mozes And The Firstborn - Bloodsucker
These Dutch dudes just joined us on our first ever American headlining tour. They blew our minds everynight, they absolutely fucking rule.

The Memories - I Remember You
A truly beautiful song about a lost summertime love… Poppy but sad, beautifully bittersweet lo-fi rock.

Curtis Harding - Keep On Shining
Finally a true soul singer has emerged in the burger universe. Curtis is the man. We toured together and became instant friends and I find myself with this song stuck in my head on a daily basis.

Black Lips - Boys In The Wood
Killer swampy track off the tightest ATL dudes’ newest album. Killer band, killer dudes, awesome track.

See Together PANGEA play London’s Old Blue Last on 22nd May.
