It is a wonderful thing indeed, to come across a new band, act or musician that immediately leaps out of the speakers and grabs your attention. It’s another thing entirely though, when you immerse yourself further in said artist’s music, and you find that with each layer you peel away, something more astonishing is revealed.
/please/ is the moniker of 17 year old, Bristol based Ellen Davies. In-between college classes and going to gigs, she likes nothing more than to create delicately touching, yet vast melodic landscapes – as you do. With her sound, Ellen manages to achieve ethereal beauty via implication, demonstrating the most discerning of natural talents.
With the quality on display, it would be unfair to describe /please/ as a young or developing talent. Quite frankly, it’s simply talent – and it’s one of the finest talents I’ve had the pleasure of writing about for Neu, regardless of age.
