News Reading & Leeds 2011: Benjamin Francis Leftwich

Benjamin Francis Leftwich released his debut album, ‘Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm’, back in July, and this weekend makes appearances on the Festival Republic Stage at Reading and Leeds. Here are his answers to our festival-themed Q&A.

Have you played Reading and Leeds before?
No, I’ve never played before. It should be cool though.

Have you ever been as a fan?
Yeah, I used to go to Leeds a lot when I was a teenager. Always messy…

Reading and Leeds is known as a ‘rock’ festival. What’s the least rock ‘n roll thing you’ve ever done?
Haha, I read two chapters of ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ before going on stage at Summer Sundae festival. Not so cool.

What’s the best thing about playing festivals?
The atmosphere at the festivals is usually amazing. Everyone there seems really up for listening to music and having a good time. Festival shows can be really special sometimes!

A few rainy festivals this summer have seen artists going on stage in their wellington boots. Is this something you’ve done or would consider?
I would if I had to, but I love my Nike Airs. They’re so comfy and easy to move around in compared to wellies!

Which artists are you hoping to catch live at Reading and/or Leeds?
I haven’t had a chance to properly check out the line up but it would be amazing to see The Strokes and also my mates Little Comets are playing just before me so I’ll definitely be watching that!
