You can picture these songs sitting nicely with their place-of-origin: Brighton.

Nothing’s more exciting than seeing an artist progress at a rate this quick. Brighton’s Regal Safari, an exciting three-piece, only began to shed light on their music a month or so back, with the unveiling of ‘Only’ and ‘Triumph’ – two striking, evocative pieces of electronic music. But just last week, things took an even brighter turn. ‘Light’ emerged from through the tunnel; this gleaming, emotional instrumental piece. It seemed like a seminal work at first, the defining song that marked Regal Safari’s emergence. But of course, it probably won’t be. The artist will, most likely, already be working on new material that betters work of old. And that’s the most exciting part.

You can picture these songs sitting nicely with their place-of-origin: Brighton, though hampered by a couple of stereotypes, is one of the most beautiful places on Earth in the summertime (with the exception of these terrifying traffic jams that grace the seaside every day). This might be a somewhat one-sided opinion, considering I grew up there. But no music takes me back to my hometown as much as Regal Safari’s manages to. There’s this impressionable glow that spreads itself on top of the songs, this vivid, colourful image of a glowing sun and a hustled crowd. Perhaps it’s more fitting for a holiday resort where you’ve more peace and less risk of being rained on, but it’s easy to see where Regal Safari plants their ideas from. Nevertheless, the recently unveiled video for ‘Only’ consists of storm clouds and psychotic black-and-white visuals – every song has two sides and this darker impression works just as well.

So whilst the artist remains relatively mysterious for the time being, it’s in this association that you feel an emotional current in Regal Safari’s work – this is why these three tracks work so wonderfully.
