Mystery is now so played out amongst new musicians that it has almost become cool to have a plain old smiling pic as your press shot, no hipstermatic effects or anything.
Well, maybe not, but as the public’s tolerance for all things chillwave has plummeted, that hasn’t stopped the mysterious Slow Magic form keeping the dream alive.
First things first, the only bio available reads: ‘Slow magic is the sound made by an unknown imaginary friend’. – There is the fact that he or she likes to wear masks in the hazy, star tinkling press pics. Also, there was a three track EP released entitled ‘△’ (stick with us it gets better, honestly).
What (s)he does do significantly well, though, is use expertly chopped up samples, juxtapose them with long, euphorically drawn out synths and intertwine it all with some wondrous, delicately beautiful piano loops. In a nutshell, Slow Magic makes some of the most awe-inspiring electronic music in recent Internet memory.
Chillwave (or how ever you may describe it) is an easy thing to poke fun at, but when it’s done this good how can you even conjure up an insult?
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
