Last time we made mention of SWIM, an emerging tropical pop duo from London, we painted a slightly negative picture. They warmed up for Petite Noir at the Old Blue Last, and like a total arsewipe who’d shun a close friend to one side just to hang out with someone cooler, we allowed their really quite impressive set to be outshadowed by something colossally good.
So SWIM warrant further words, some of a more positive disposition. At the time, we were just urging Joe Boyle and Richard Williams on, begging them to lose themselves a little bit more on stage, do an Ed Macfarlane style jig - they were dressed in tropical beach style shirts, it seemed appropriate. And their music truly warrants an unashamed jive in honour of sunnier surroundings. ‘Ride’ is a work of escapist triumph, encompassing every escaping inch of summer and compressing it into four minutes of gorgeous pop music. More of this, plus some added stage presence, and we’ll have a force to be reckoned with.
‘Ride’ is set for release through Bad Life on 22nd October.
