New music guide The Neu Bulletin (11th July 2014)

DIY’s new music tips pick out The Magic Gang, Broncho and Luke Osborne.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE WEEKEND GIG:The Magic Gang, Oscar, The Black Tambourines — London, The KPH (Saturday 12th)

Once London punters empty their pockets for a lifetime’s supply of records at the Independent Label Market, chances are they’ll be feeling happy but a little in need of a freebie. A gig featuring The Magic Gang, Oscar and The Black Tambourines (amongst others) seems to be the appropriate remedy, given it costs exactly zero pennies.

THE BIG NEU THING:BRONCHO — Class Historian

Sod whistling. Sometimes the catchiest means of introducing a song is to open with a neat “da-da-da-da”. BRONCHO provide the neatest example of this in recent memory, cutely diving right into the charming ‘Class Historian’ with warm, complete embrace. This is a dimple-cheeked, undeniably sweet song; a delightful taste of their new album ‘Just Enough Hip To Be Woman’. It’s out 15th September on Dine Alone Records.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:Luke Osborne — SKIN

Close to the touch, ‘SKIN’ is a debut track from Luke Osborne designed to rattle the senses. It’s an unforgiving assault of synths, with heady house samples being rinsed out with dark, deceiving bass. Osborne meanwhile holds his own, unfazed by the flurry of electronics he chooses to surround himself in. SOHN/Turtle/Chet Faker fans will most likely adore this.
