THE GIG
Childhood - Glasgow, Broadcast

Word continues to spread on the jangly charms of Childhood. Two years back a few whispers surrounded the group. A couple of singles to the good and it still feels like they’re keeping something special super secret. Tonight’s show in Glasgow might shed a few new treats.

THE SONG
Duco - Set Me Free
Frozen in Time by Duco

The best way of standing out in a muddled crowd of musicians all hammering dear life out of their guitars and producing shoegaze-rooted noise, is to run with it. Take risks, pour everything into each and every track, go with instincts. This might sound like holier-than-thou, patronising advice from Aunty Neu but in ‘Set Me Free’, the opener on Rotterdam musician Duco’s latest album, everything is playing on intinct. From the opening, gradually soaring rush of cymbal crashes and foggy chants, right up to the flurried outro, this is a guy who’s running with wild ideas, all because he can.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
BLACK VANILLA - BLACK ON BLACK ON BLACK
BLACK ON BLACK ON BLACK by BLACK VANILLA

But don’t forget there exists at least three types of spiders who’ll kill you in a flash if you so much as sneeze near their patch. BLACK VANILLA hone in at this sense of doom, nailing their colours to the mast in fledging fucked up dance tracks which sound like nothing else out there.
