News The Neu Bulletin (12th September 2012)

A guide to gigs and new music, curated by Neu. Featuring Star Slinger and MS MR.

If you’re craving that feeling of excitement you get from hearing a new artist or if you’re just desperate to head out and see some of the hottest acts live, Neu’s got you covered. Here’s Wednesday’s bulletin of new music recommendations, both on the net and in the flesh.

WHO’S PLAYING WHERE?
MS MR are in the middle of launching a release on the Tumblr platform. But aside from spending time looking at cat gifs and discovering the sheer, frightening magnitude of One Direction’s fan base, the duo are spreading the word in London. They’re on at 10pm in Birthdays tonight, with support from Furs and FOE. Word is tickets have sold out, but do everything in your power to find someone selling. This is a big show.

MS MR play Birthdays, Dalston with FOE and Furs. Details here.

WHO’S MAKING WAVES?
Ruby Taylor is a Brighton solo artist making music under the name Yumi and the Weather. It sounds like a kooky chart act but actually, the first glimpse we’ve been given of this project is one of progressive, rhythmically-led pop. Debut track ‘Not Again’ is like Matthew Dear crossing arms with Grimes and leading us into a tropical paradise. A new single’s on its way, we’re told.

FURTHER NEU BUSINESS
Star Slinger has embraced his burgeoning following with open arms. He’s just emerged with his most universal, chart-ready track to date. It’s usual business in the sense that samples are skewed within an inch of their former selves, but at the surface is a euphoric pulse, the kind of ‘hands in the air’ mood we could all do with trying to channel in a shun to our post-Olympics hangover.
