News The Neu Bulletin (14th April 2014)

Neu’s new music guide picks out Sivu, JUDE and FORDE.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.

THE GIG
Sivu supports Augustines - London, Koko

James Page aka Sivu is making music that’s gradually getting more introspective, more individual with each turn. Beginning with graceful, catchy songwriting, he’s since expanded to show his weirder side. Tonight he supports Augustines.

THE BIG NEU THING
JUDE. - Crystals

The first signs of a genuine post-Lorde movement? Nah. JUDE. - a new West Palm Beach duo specialising in slick, emotional pop - fledge vocals that sound very similar to the high-flying New Zealander, but as debut song ‘Crystals’ progresses they move on from meaningless comparisons into the upper echelons of heart-on-sleeve songwriting. There’s edge and meaning to this first effort, surely hoisting JUDE. up amongst the more exciting new pop acts.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
FORDE

She is FORDE. A new, London-based producer wrapping soul-spliced vocals up in oddball, shuffling production. Clipped guitars and disjointed beats point to a song that’d rather be out of place than one that follows rules. This is what FORDE sings about too - outdated ideals being stamped on by something new. The chant of “You don’t like to fuck” isn’t the most conventional either. Don’t expect this newcomer to sit still for one second.
