THE GIG
Torres - Brighton, Green Door Store
A debut’s out there in the big wide world but there’s still a sense of intrigue meeting Torres as she arrives for her very first UK stint. Backing up the S/T debut is a nagging reminder that there’s an awful lot more to come. Brighton’s Green Door Store awaits.
THE SONG
PANES - Choice Errors
This is quite something, then. A skittish debut track, overloaded with customary beats and wistful vocals and whatever else makes debut songs attention-grabbing and exciting. PANES’ ‘Choices’ ticks a lot of boxes. Whether it goes that one step further is questionable at first, but there’s a clever fusion of influences, with jazz-y percussion coming up against otherworldly sounds that are linked geographically to a Japanese samurai hut, more than anything else. In their own way, PANES push the boat out, slow and steady.
