New music guide The Neu Bulletin (14th October 2014)

DIY’s daily batch of new music tips, featuring Astronomyy and Innocence.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Astronomyy - London, The Waiting Room

One-man extraordinare Astronomyy’s debut live show took place at Brixton Academy, supporting London Grammar. No biggie. His first proper headline show is in slightly more intimate confines, and The Waiting Room’s promising a packed-to-the-rafters, free showcase of this guy’s more-than-intriguing talent.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Innocence - Suicide Girl

Innocence is a Philadelphia-based musician working to the same curiously sleepy but conscience-cutting methods as someone like Youth Lagoon. Distant, murky vocals float off into outerspace, coming off like they’re on the brink of tears at times. Then there’s a cinematic piano line to bring the whole piece to life, as if this song - ‘Suicide Girl’ - could be soundtracking the last emotional moment in a blockbuster. It’s destined for big things.
