New music guide The Neu Bulletin (5th May 2015)

DIY’s new music tips, featuring Astronomyy, Home and Loafer.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Astronomyy

London, Electrowerkz

Ahead of appearances at Sound City and The Great Escape, Worcestershire producer Astronomyy plays his biggest London headline show yet. He’s also just shared his ‘When I’m With U’ track, bringing muted guitar lines and heady production to the fore.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Home - Return

Melodrama lines the seams of ‘Return’, a rain-soaked, trip-hop nodding first effort from Home. “You know it hurts to bring you here,” the so-far-nameless newcomer sings. She’s backed by male vocals for a slick close, sitting somewhere between Massive Attack and an emotion-first All Saints track. Watch the video here.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Loafer

We want to live Loafer life. This Austin, Texas band hang out at bays, swim in the afternoons and record songs into the evening. A video for slacker jam ‘Realize’ showcases their no-big-plans lifestyle, and it’s enough to make even the wealthiest, carefree of sods jealous. The song itself is a smoothly laid-out, Deerhunter-nodding triumph. It’s taken from a ‘Hardest Worker’ tape, out now on Merdurhaus Records.
