THE GIG
Laura Welsh - London, The Africa Centre
Word’s gotten round on Laura Welsh’s studio prowess - working alongside Dev Hynes and Rhye’s Robin Hannibal, to name a couple - but this is the first real showcase of her live game, launching the ‘Cold Front’ single in London’s Covent Garden.
THE SONG
SUN STRIPES - I’m Here
Demo by SUN STRIPES
Why complain about muffled recordings? Not least when they’re labelled as ‘demos’. There’s actually a lot of fun in imagining rough versions in a fuller form - that’s just about half the magic of finding new music from little-known bands such as SUN STRIPES. ‘I’m Here’ might sound distinctly like it’s coming from another room - maybe through a couple of walls, if we’re being generous - but that doesn’t hold it back from being a gorgeously carefree introduction.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS

This, on the other hand, is a ferocious collection of skittering electronic cuts, where sounds bounce off the proverbial walls into some wild outerspace. All the bass-heavy tracks unveiled to date are available as free downloads, and there’s enough to suggest they’ll be the first of many.
