THE GIG
The Hundredth Anniversary, Playlounge, Joanna Gruesome, Hot Glass - Brighton, Green Door Store
It’s due time we took a trip down to Brighton to immerse ourselves in some good old-fashioned but equally forward-looking fuzz. Those Neu favourites of ours Playlounge feature alongside the ever-improving Joanna Gruesome. The Hundredth Anniversary - who have a new single, ‘The Jump’ out on 18th March through Tiny Lights- also appear with new ‘uns Hot Glass. It’s a free show, but those of you feeling generous can donate, with all profits going towards the Rhythmixmusic charity, which allows young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to learn their way around an instrument or two.
THE WEEKEND GIG
Saturday 16th March
Kilo Kish, The Internet - Brighton, Audio
Sticking in Brighton this weekend - book a hotel, why don’t you - for the impressionable Kilo Kish (pictured, above). She’s been touring the UK these past couple of weeks, but this stopover with The Internet is one you can’t afford to miss. Expect highlights from her recent ‘K+’ mixtape, plus some of the most inventive, glassy-eyed hip-hop you’ve ever encountered.
THE SONG
FIANCÉ - Division
Here’s the deal. I don’t remember finding this song or receiving an email about it. It just sat there in a tab for a while and bam, I clicked play and fell in love. These guys - whoever they are, and wherever they’re from - have a brilliantly crafted sound to build leagues on top of. ‘Division’ is a smart, ever-evolving track, half Alex Turner-style quips, the other a bold, shape-shifting kind that Grizzly Bear will look upon with envy.
