New music guide The Neu Bulletin (15th September 2015)

DIY’s new music tips, featuring Olivier Heim, Horsebeach and Nai Harvest.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Girlpool, Nai Harvest, Stephen Steinbrink

London, Scala (DIY Presents)

Tonight sees Girlpool playing their biggest UK show to date, and they’re joined by Neu favourites Nai Harvest and Stephen Steinbrick. It’s a DIY Presents and Rockfeedback night, and it’s the finest way to spend a Tuesday evening this side of a local pub quiz. An almighty triple-bill.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Olivier Heim - Ocean

Olivier Heim makes music that sounds like it’s floating, whether it’s taking a plane ride through the clouds or sitting snugly on a lilo above water. With ‘Ocean’, however, it’s not all dreamy synths and daydreaming guitars. There’s a cut and groove to the track, which announces the Warsaw musician as someone capable of delivering sweetly juxtaposed songs.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Horsebeach - It’s Alright

Manchester’s Horsebeach released a striking self-titled LP last year, which wound up championed by the underground by the time 2014 ran its course. Ryan Kennedy is back in swift time with second LP ‘II’, and it’s being headed up by the Ducktails-nodding ‘It’s Alright’, which merges longing with a sweet, easeful calm.
