THE GIG
Majical Cloudz - London, White Heat
Devon Welsh lands himself for a couple of shows in the capitol this week - he supports Autre Ne Veut tomorrow night at the Electrowerkz - previewing tracks from his debut full-length ‘Impersonator’. His shows welcome rapt silence and more than a fair share of intrigued glances, such is the intimate style of his commanding performance.
THE SONG
WRLDS - Communicate
Nashville duo Jake Goss and Les Priest have the whole sleek, semi-dark pop game solved. ‘Communicate’ - their debut track - is busied with a synthetic groove, analog tones all nonsense now. But it’s the sound of a gadget confessing its sins, showing a heart within an electronic surrounding. It’s music that would otherwise sound alien communicating, basically. Hence the title.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Qiuet - anybody home
anybody home by Qiuet
Another song matching its title, ‘anybody home’ is an inquisitive little track. Sunken in a shoegaze sound, no doubt, but brimming with life all the same, it’s the work of a New Zealand musician who we know virtually nothing about. There’s just the MBV-referencing artwork and the slowly seeping beauty of these songs to work with. But it ought to satisfy.
