Night Beds - Manchester, Soup Kitchen


Running towards the end of a long UK jaunt, Winston Yellen’s Night Beds produced one of the year’s most touching debuts in ‘Country Sleep’. If you’ve yet to hear it, it’s best that you’re introduced in a live setting.

THE SONG
Forest - John


Cambridge’s Forest make you want to travel back decades to a time when your only worries concerned whether or not they’d be any space for you on the climbing frame in your local park. Their ‘Sweetcure’ EP (aptly release on ‘sea blue vinyl’ at the end of May), goes through all the motions of your formative years, right up to meeting pretty girls as a teenager and getting over your first crush. It’s excitable, shoegaze-tinged brilliance, all pumped up on hormones.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Givan Lötz - Tongue


Givan Lötz has been releasing music since 2008. We say music. He calls his songs ‘art-objects’, blessed by uncertainty. There’s no doubting a track like ‘Tongue’ is more work of art than straightforward song. The eerie, nagging sense of doubt that so laces his songs is no more evident than here, where a Grouper-like ambience directs proceedings.
