New music guide The Neu Bulletin (17th April 2015)

DIY’s new music tips, featuring Bruising, FOXTROTT and O. Chapman.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE WEEKEND GIG:
Menace Beach, Simmer, Bruising (DIY Presents)

London, The Old Blue Last

Free entry and bathing in a post-Record Store Day excitement, this weekend we’re putting on a great big get-together with Alcopop Records!, to celebrate the release of their new compilation. Heading up the bill is DIY favourite Menace Beach. They’re joined by Leeds thrashers Bruising and the equally exciting Simmer. It’s a triple-bill to rival them all.

THE BIG NEU THING:
O. Chapman - Best Friend

Companionship doesn’t come sweeter than a wall of comforting guitars swarming the senses, and Oliver Chapman is well aware of this. On his new ‘Best Friend’ track, buddies take to the town with zero fear. The track appear on Art Is Hard’s latest Hand Cut Record Club entry, where the Southsea / London label takes its DIY mentality to new extremes. Grab a copy here.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
FOXTROTT - Driven

Newly signed to One Little Indian, FOXTROTT is a fascinating Montreal newcomer. She’ll just as readily remix Missy Elliott as she will transfer hip-hop influences to distorted pop. True to the title, there’s serious purpose to ‘Driven’, a stop-start call and response that brings the best out of a tiny supply of tools.
