DIY’s daily new music tips, featuring Lydia Ainsworth, Boys Age and California Carpool.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to.Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG:
Lydia Ainsworth
London, Sebright Arms
As part of her first trip to these shores, Lydia Ainsworth brings her disjointed, perfectly orchestrated pop to London’s Sebright Arms. Her UK debut arrives after 2014’s ‘From Right From Real’ release, which sneaked into end of year lists, the excitable whispers continuing way past December’s cutting-off point.
THE BIG NEU THING:
Boys Age - Calm Time
Slacker rock schooled in the Homeshake / Mac DeMarco school of stoned, Boys Age stands out because it’s a project based in Japan. On new single ‘Calm Time’, genre borders bow down, with trippy guitar licks filtering in and out of focus.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
California Carpool - Pleasure
Isaac Ide’s California Carpool is putting its name to a debut single, out this month on Living End. ‘Pleasure’ leads the way, a simmered down take on the rollicking, Cure-nodding, DIIV-absorbing stream of consciousness style Ide so effortlessly excels with. With California Carpool, everything’s tones down to the extent that it gives beach pop and escapism an eerie edge. ‘Pleasure’ could be a weapon in disguise.
