New music guide The Neu Bulletin (17th July 2014)
Demob Happy and Flemmings are in today’s new music guide.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG:Demob Happy — London, Garage
This time last week we picked out a stunning new track from Brighton bunch Demob Happy, coming off like a cross between Queens of the Stone Age and something much, much more sinister. It arrived ahead of a “secret” gig in their home city. Tonight they’re sticking to the rules a little more with a proper billing at London Garage.
THE BIG NEU THING:Flemmings
Sometimes a racket is all that’s required. Flemmings is a new bunch from South London, who’ve presumably been packed into a garage next to some poor sod of a neighbour for months now. Their debut collection of tracks is branched under the “Demo” banner, and no doubt these songs have rough edges. They’ve quite the punch too, though. ‘Something Gross’ spits out a sore-fingered solo when least expected, and ‘Real Good Fun’ clatters and clashes with severe lack of restraint.
