New music guide The Neu Bulletin (17th October 2014)

DIY’s new music tips includes The Magic Gang and Weaves.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE WEEKEND GIG:
The Magic Gang, Reporters - London, The Old Blue Last (DIY Presents - Saturday 18th October)

This weekend, DIY is putting on an almighty new music showcase, just a couple of weeks ahead of our all-dayer at The Laundry. Brighton’s The Magic Gang lead the way - two tracks to their name, the four-piece are gaining their rep through chaotic live shows (they played before the ceiling fell down on Superfood’s KPH set this summer - go figure). Reporters are in support, a ridiculously fresh-faced new band with tons of potential.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Weaves - Shithole

With one swift move, Weaves sum up teenage angst. “I remember turning fifteen and thinking something’s not right,” Jasmyn Burke barks on ‘Shithole’, the band’s new single on Buzz Records. Rejoicing in the same emotion-led displays of Waxahatchee and Radiator Hospital, they bring an edgier rejoice to the affair, frustration leading the way. This is bored afternoons, sexual frustration, hangovers, everything kids growing up grow to gripe.
