New music guide The Neu Bulletin (19th March 2015)
DIY’s new music tips, featuring Cloud Castle Lake, SARN and CatHair.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG: Cloud Castle Lake
Dublin’s Cloud Castle Lake are bit-by-bit making an impact as an unorthodox one-off. Only aliens could make perfect sense of exactly what they’re about, new single ‘Glacier’ sounding like an otherworldly mineral, some ground-breaking scientific discovery. Tonight, these strange specimens play their songs to actual human beings in the confines of Electrowerkz. Support comes from Spies.
London, Electrowerkz
“I’ve been down this road before,” claims Sacramento musician SARN, but that’s a misleading road to take. Nothing sounds entirely familiar on ‘Foreign Feeling’. Even if it’s slightly off-colour or faintly out of place, what could be a customary acoustic song is instead given a curious platform.
THE BIG NEU THING:SARN — Foreign Feeling
Orlando songwriter CatHair slumps back down to planet Earth with each of his reality-biting songs. Emotions are hung to dry in ‘Lifetime’, a simple bedroom recording that speaks way beyond its tiny setting. He’s currently on a prolific streak, so keep up to date with everything here.
