THE GIG
Crushed Beaks & Totem - London, Lexington
With Crushed Beaks launching their ‘Feelers’ EP to crowds en masse, they’re also supported by sharp-edged know-it-alls Totem, who sport the kind of witty post-punk that’s been sorely missed up until now.
THE SONG
Neon Windbreaker - Pink Suit
Finally. Something riotous enough to hold by your side and run amok with. Neon Windbreaker are a Canada outfit intent on wreaking havoc on perfectly civilised cities. The ‘Pink Suit’ video suggests as much, its 1 and a half minute spree playing out as a dizzying journey through concrete streets, evidently filmed by someone drunk out of their mind. That’s the Neon Windbreaker ethos: Never do anything in half doses, especially if it’s a strong spirit of some kind.
Neon Windbreaker play London Birthdays on 29th October, Brighton’s The Hope on 30th October.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Midnight Davis - Midnight Manifesto (live)
Here’s a curveball. London newcomer Midnight Davis initially came off like an oddball producer who’d hide behind laptops to shroud weird ideas in creepy electronics. That’s clearly not the case. Ahead of a headline date in London tonight, ‘Chairman Kato”s unveiled an echo chamber of a live preview, as nightmarish as it is real. Organically put together - to the extent that it’ll scare the bejeezus out of audiences in the flesh - it’s a Nine Inch Nails channelling horror show, in a very good way.
Midnight Davis plays London Power Lunches tonight.
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
