New music guide The Neu Bulletin (1st April 2015)
DIY’s new music tips, featuring VANT, The Magic Gang and Show Me The Body.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG: The Magic Gang, Crows (w/Wolf Alice)
Bloody Knees pick up the baton for The Tour To Top Them All tomorrow night. Cardiff marks the last time Wolf Alice, Crows and The Magic Gang make up the same-line-up, with BK taking Crows’ role all the way through to Cambridge. So expect sentimental goodbyes scattered alongside the huge singalongs.
Cardiff, The Globe
Who knew buzz bands could be so sentimental? VANT do things a little differently. Subject of a major label bidding war, their Kings of Leon-style antics are dressed in different clothes. ‘Birth Certificate’ is a song all about a non-UK citizen being whisked off out of the country due to newly-established immigration laws. Talk about topical. Definitely not Nigel Farage’s cup of tea, which makes it even more of a gem.
THE BIG NEU THING:VANT — Birth Certificate
Self-professed “sludge” emerging out of NYC, Show Me The Body are a complete revelation. Their disjointed take on hardcore takes elements of Death Grips, HEALTH and more established staples and rinses out the ordinary. ‘Bone Soup’ comes coupled with footage of raw, energised live shows. There’s a sense of movement, a momentum behind the band that doesn’t strike average newcomers.
