THE GIG
MT, IYES, Yumi and the Weather - Brighton, The Prince Albert

Tonight’s free entry show just round the corner from Brighton station hosts loved-up smiley-types MT, as well as local B-town (we’re calling it that) acts Yumi and the Weather and DIY favourites IYES (pictured). The latter have a new single round the corner, while the other two look similarly capable of humongous things, given time.

THE SONG
Life - In Citrus

‘In Citrus’ carries all the purposefully dumb bombastic swagger of Palma Violets and Libertines and all that lark, but it hoists itself up to a new cause with lyrics like “out there in the citrus, out there in the firs, lost selves in occasions, taped cells to the floor.” Who give a flying so-and-so what it means: There’s something big, brash and genuinely momentous about the LIFE’s first song.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
A-Minor - Thinking Bout The Things

Schooled via Disclosure slash Bondax slash whichever young knob-twiddlers (that’s a good thing) happen to be appearing on the scene. Electronic immediacy; house with all the cred swept to one side; club classics without the dodgy STIs. A-Minor is a huge prospect, a producer with pretty much no bounds. Get rid of the cliched semi-topless women artwork and you’ll have a genuine contender for 2014.
