THE GIG
Society - London, Sebright Arms
Another manifestation of a 90s revival in bloom is Society, who uses ‘Dummy’-era Portishead samples as a starting point for his pristine, perfectly-styled pop. This debut London show is bound to draw a big crowd.
THE SONG
Lupa - The Creature
Say it out loud. ‘Lupa.’ ‘Loop-a.’ There’s an emphasis on repetition, the spin of hands on a clock, the one-foot forward and continue stance that this 15 year old (FIFTEEN) Sydney resident relies on. Her music has been - and will continue to be - compared to Grimes. But there’s something in the way she makes predominantly electronic, gadgety things seem like they’ve come straight out of some pagan cave of organic sounds. In that sense, Imogen Jones is already doing things musicians twice her age can’t muster. ‘The Creature’ is a forceful, exciting being that’ll only spread its wings further as word spreads.
