News The Neu Bulletin (20th February 2014)

Neu’s daily new music guide feature Rosie Lowe, The GTW and Years & Years.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.

THE GIG
Rosie Lowe - London, Oslo

With just a single EP to her name, Londoner Rosie Lowe’s still fast-becoming someone capable of releasing one of the year’s defining debuts. Whether it arrives this year is another question, but the Class of 2014 graduate sure has plenty up her sleeve

THE BIG NEU THING
THE GTW - Calling Cards

24 year old James King knows how to impress. Valentine’s Day must’ve belonged to him. “It’s true girl, it’s true girl” he coos on his crooning ‘Calling Cards’ track. The song’s from the debut album ‘Chigeria’, its title stemming from The GTW’s own style (he’s from Chicago and Nigeria). Background aside, anyone going for the romance jugular with this much bravado would usually come off creepy. Not this guy.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Years & Years - Eyes Shut

On ‘Eyes Shut’, Years & Years lead vocalist and frontman Olly Alexander shimmers in electro pop bliss. “Nothing’s going to hurt me with my eyes shut,” runs a glistening chorus. This self-produced track interacts with the complexity of build and release. The poppy three-piece venture into new musical territory, effortlessly blending minimal electronica with indie undertones.
