New music guide The Neu Bulletin (20th May 2015)

DIY’s new music tips, featuring Pale Honey, Comforter and The Rhythm Method.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Pale Honey

London, The Islington

Taking their ‘Youth’ debut on the road, Gothenburg duo Pale Honey are fast becoming a group fully realising their potential. Their first work gives nods to UK giants like PJ Harvey, and it’s no surprise they’ve been lapped up on these shores. Tonight they headline The Islington.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Comforter - Happy Animal

Austin four-piece Comforter like to ease the senses and shake things up in a sinister balancing act. A song like ‘Happy Animal’ is happy to amble on and soothe with gently-gently guitar lines, but it’s just of capable of breaking into a fear-instilling monster. This song’s taken from the band’s upcoming ‘To-go’ album, out 13th June on merdurhaus records.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
The Rhythm Method - Local, Girl

The Rhythm Method sound like Mike Skinner visiting Phoenix Knights for a booze-up, Shaun Ryder retiring from twisting melons to play bingo. Rooted in beer-stained Wetherspoons and maybe the odd piss dungeon, their post-lad ‘Local, Girl’ is oddly endearing. Opinion-splitting to the extreme, it’s essentially the theme tune to a fucked up game show.
