New music guide The Neu Bulletin (22nd January 2015)

DIY picks out new tips from Hinds, Super Squarecloud and Puppy.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Hinds - London, Electrowerkz

Following their first ever UK stage invasion last night, Madrid’s Hinds play their last gig in the country before attention turns to SXSW, a debut album, and goodness knows what else. These four are riding the mightiest of waves, which shows no sign of simmering out anytime soon.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Super Squarecloud - Godot

It’s pretty criminal not to see Super Squarecloud at the top of everyone’s agendas by this point. The quick-witted pop these four sport is up there with Deerhoof and Micachu in balancing sharp songwriting with a bright-eyed sense of fun. New song ‘Godot’ is a collision of complexities, all working together to form an instant pop fix. Sleeping on this band is no longer an option.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Puppy - Forever

Bask in the sludge. New London outfit Puppy wag one sinister tail on debut track ‘Forever’, which shares a lot of similarities with a crushing wave of UK-based fuzz obsessives, like Happyness and The Magic Gang. With one head in US college rock, the other in a death-inducing hairdryer, this is unashamed rock ’n roll making a big first step.
