News The Neu Bulletin (23rd May 2014)
Friday’s new music guide features Tirzah, Luca Del George and CHAMPION LOVER.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.
THE GIG
Tirzah - Brixton, Old Queens Head
With Jungle playing a sold out headline show at the Oval Space, down south of the river we’ve got a very exciting, rare headline show from Tirzah, who just released her ‘No Romance’ EP on Greco-Roman. The title-track still stands out as one of the best songs of the year so far.
THE BIG NEU THING
Luca Del George - Interpersonal
Yes, that’s a fucked up head-mask style image of Brad Pitt in ‘Interpersonal’’s artwork and yes, this is another warped, strange work of electronic music from Glasgow producer Luca del George. His debut ‘Myshkin’ track was a curious, oddball-to-the-bone piece that set a weirdo stall. ‘Interpersonal’ is intentionally cold, with squealing synths - set apart by jerky beats - sounding like an actual cry. Maybe it’s Brad’s tears lining the seams. Poor Brad.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
CHAMPION LOVER
Toronto band CHAMPION LOVER’s debut LP hisses with the same intensity as a pack of rattlesnakes, tails shaking like a pair of maracas on a vengeance. Officially out 20th June, it’s a work that throws around the foundations of noise rock for fun, flicking a switch between keen melodies and all-out walls of feedback. ‘Shooter’’s a standout track, booming with confidence and giving life to a band that first met in “grade four” of school in the “shithole” of Weston. Beat that, Foxygen.
