THE GIG
Courtney Barnett & Honeyblood - London, Servant Jazz Quarters
Guitar kicks and a heavy dose of wit (she’s one of the first lyricists in ages who has the ability to produce genuine fits of laughter in her listener), Aussie Courtney Barnett is playing several gigs in London this week. This just happens to be the one that fits into Neu’s schedule on the busiest week ever. Plus, there’s the brilliant Honeyblood launching their single in the same gig. And what a single.
THE SONG
Gallant - Sirens
Steamed up and fit to burst, Felix Snow (who’s put his name to some SZA tracks) has produced this colossal, hot to trot Gallant single. ‘Sirens’ takes lift off on the LA newcomer’s strange, stirring vocals and the kind of production that’d usually be saved for a Clams Casino mixtape or a Balam Acab track. Dark, noir wave is gradually infiltrating into the charts - this is the next big step.
