THE GIG
Josef Salvat - London, The Waiting Room
Flick your way through this week’s tablet edition of DIY and you’ll find Josef Salvat telling all about his musical upbringing. Once you’re suitably schooled, pop over to London’s Waiting Room (tickets £6) for one of his first London shows, with plenty more to come no doubt. Catch him while he’s fresh.
THE SONG
Travis Bretzer - Hurts So Bad
Detuned guitars are the new adrenaline shots. Every time a ear-splitting section appears on a song your memory glands stand to attention, all your nerve endings light up at once. Travis Bretzer’s mastered the Mac DeMarco slash Jackson Scott woozy, semi-sedated punk-type sound, none more so than on ‘Hurts So Bad’.
Taken from a double A-side single out 5th May on Cool Delta.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
school
school by school
Your guess is as good as ours as to the members and motives behind this school project. If we were forced to take a punt, we’d say some guy got dumped, took an acoustic guitar out from the shed, sat outside for a good couple of hours and recorded love songs on a 4-track. The player above seems to be an album recorded in its entirety, stuck together for the purpose of providing one big helping of life-sucks melodrama. It’s pretty fascinating.
