Features The Neu Bulletin (28th February 2014)
Neu’s weekend new music guide, featuring Radkey, Kieran Fearing and Yohuna.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.
THE GIG
Radkey - Glasgow, King Tuts Wah Wah Hut
Whether its in the genes or the jeans (ie. the dodgy denim), Radkey possess a gut and a gustor few other bands come close to. Scrap the hyperbole if you fancy - but first, try and find another band diving headfirst into this kind of forceful scrap. Glasgow beckons.
THE BIG NEU THING
Kieran Fearing
Vancouver based, Kieran Fearing seems to have coined the same loose-limbed, playful take on melancholy songwriting that Damon Albarn’s soon to be accused of mastering once more. Trained in jazz piano, he doesn’t use blessed talents to show off. Instead, there’s a giddy, childish means of expression. Every note skims the surface instead of outstaying its welcome. On ‘Last July’, above, we might just be witnessing the makings of a true star.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Yohuna - Badges
This weekend, go outside. Ride a bike. If you don’t have a bike, steal a bike. Find a deserted field, go crazy, don’t get lost. Orchid Tapes is a label that suits escape. DIY-built, the New York via Toronto project’s recently fledged releases from Ricky Eat Acid and the absolutely essential new Fog Lake LP, ‘Virgo Indigo’. Quiet introspection invited, a new Yohuna song ‘Badges’ appears on Orchid Tapes’ forthcoming compilation, ‘Boring Ecstasy’. Like a dash of light peering in through a window, it’s a mind-bogglingly pretty addition to the label’s roster, something that demands further exploration the second it introduces itself.
