Holy Esque, Silver Arm - London, Hoxton Bar & Kitchen
Scots with more than a small speck of promise Holy Esque arrive in East London for an intimate haunt at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen tonight. The decipherable, excitable bellows they sport will pierce the venue walls, no doubt. Silver Arm provide support.
THE SONG
White - This Morning
This Morning by White
Strap yourself in: It’s going to be a rough ol’ ride. Ok. This is unlike anything we’ve ever published in these here Bulletins. It’s vocoder rock, possibly. Sound terrible? It might be. It could be conceived by a bunch of musical scientists who know how to combine tragically bad things into something redeemable. Possibly. It might also just be a bunch of kids from Mexico City who’ve messed around and landed on something very odd and potentially brilliant. The dodgy hi-hats give the impression it’s just pure luck. But there’s a very clever towing of the tastelessness line here. A sweet, simple guitar riff rings out but beyond all this there’s chaos. Abrasion, autotune; like Bon Iver attempting a dodgy Nirvana cover. Somehow this works. Or does it? One step firmly off the fence: Ok, it’s brilliant.
