THE GIG
Holy Esque support The Raveonettes - Sheffield, Queens Social Club

Manchester gets a rare glimpse tonight of potentially one of the defining bands of next year. Holy Esque are unconventionality defined: The harsh draw of Pat Hynes stands tall amongst echoing anthemia. It’s an unusual combination that’ll throw you off at first. But once it becomes the norm, you realise this extraordinary delivery sounds better than most things that tick convention boxes. As is always the case for something inventive and challenging. Holy Esque support The Raveonettes.

THE SONG
Bipolar Sunshine - Fire

Does anybody remember Kid British? They have a wikipedia page. I don’t remember Kid British, but I thought you might. One former member, a certain Adio Marchant, has formed a new band, and they’re really bloody amazing. Seriously. ‘Fire’ is a number 1 hit in waiting, is it not? Prove me wrong. Say this is nonsense. Or get just as excited as I am about Bipolar Sunshine.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Champion Lover - A Robotic Version

A Robotic Version by C H A M P I O N L O V E R

If the prospect of a “Kraut-dub-funk-punk” combination intrigues you then step into Manchester band Champion Lover’s lair. Their recently released mini album ‘Gold’ features cuts from live and improvised recordings, with ‘A Robotic Version’ being the perfect demonstration of their haunting and relentless industrial sound. Krautrock fans will be itching to get immersed in the drones. [Samuel Cornforth]
