News The Neu Bulletin (30th April 2014)

Today’s new music tips come from Theo Verney, Quirke and Nicky Sparkles.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. We can’t please everyone, sorry.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “big Neu thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery.

THE GIG
Solids, Theo Verney, Polterghost - London, Birthdays (DIY Presents)

Before festival season gets into gear (Liverpool Sound City starts tomorrow), DIY’s sticking in London to put on one hell of a show at Birthdays. Canadian duo Solids - this year’s answer to Japandroids - headline, and they’re backed by bedroom rockers Theo Verney (pictured) and Polterghost; some of the brightest UK bands going.

THE BIG NEU THING
Nicky Sparkles - It’s Your Life

The debut single by Nicky - ‘It’s Your Life’ - is out on Nicolas Jaar’s Other People label now, and is so dazzling and hazy it might as well be by the man himself. [Tom Walters]

Here’s the new Young Turks signing, Quirke, joining a home that boasts The xx, Sampha and FKA Twigs. No big deal. Except, it’s pretty exciting for electronic music this intense and introverted to find a home willing to give it this kind of a platform. ‘Break A Mirror’ - taken from the debut ‘Acid Beth’ EP - is a horrorshow of endlessly quickened synthetics and maddeningly tightly-wound samples. There’s head-bursting, all-encompassing music - and then there’s this.
