New music guide The Neu Bulletin (31st July 2014)
Today’s new music guide features Superfood, The Great Void and Girl Tears.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE GIG:Superfood — London, The Old Blue Last
Part two in a quest to turn every small venue in London into a flood of sweat and discarded dignity, Superfood play a second DIY Presents gig in the space of a week tonight. We’ll be giving out limited edition ‘zines for free, for those first through the door. After that, you might want to keep the ‘zine safe somewhere, otherwise it’ll get lost in a sea of flailing limbs.
THE BIG NEU THING:Girl Tears — Candy Darling
‘Candy Darling’ is the feather-ruffling call to arms first single from Girl Tears’ new LP, ‘Tension’. It’s coming out on Sinderlyn, a new label set up by the people behind Captured Tracks. This is Kam Andresen, Tristan Ellis and Sal Gabriel’s debut - a forthright-to-the-extreme introduction that cuts through bullshit and offers straight-up punk of serious reckoning.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS:The Great Void — Shift Age
The Great Void is a new project started up by Josh Ascalon, a Brooklyn-based synth wizard whose debut release is set to feature Twin Shadow, Autre Ne Veut and Neon Indian, amongst other guests. ‘Shift Age’ gives a quick insight into his space-based intentions, which rocket straight from humble Earth into wherever gravity happens to take it.
