THE GIG
Kwabs - London, Wilton’s Music Hall

Anyone remotely aware of Kwabs will know that a) he possesses one hell of a voice and b) he’s once performed in front of Prince Harry. He can aim higher though. This rare London gig will be a first glimpse into just how stratospheric he can go.

THE BIG NEU THING
Eugene Quell

Tobias Hayes’ scrappy alter-ego likes to lounge on the sofa, sip beer until his eyes roll over. The sounds filtering through debut ‘WEIRD PURR’ do more than their fair share of meow-ing, linking up Weezer-inspired chords with a newfound frustration that every bored teen will find themselves strangely attached to. Eugene Quell is ‘going straight to hell’ and he’s damn well sure of it - who knows, it could be very than crummy planet earth. He certainly hopes so.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Res - She’s A Witch

Through its muted introduction up to the point of ignition, Res’ ‘She’s A Witch’ hints that it might be something special. What follows goes on to exceed expectations with the kind of delicate and intricate song-writing that’d see Grizzly Bear or Unknown Mortal Orchestra nod approvingly.

Amidst the confusion of conflicting information, they present a mythical ethos, as band member Felix tells me ‘Our music is from Devil’s Lake but we are from London and that’s where we are based’. So here’s hoping for a live appearance very soon from this strikingly talented new band. [Ian Paterson]
